Offerman began his career in theater before moving into television and film. He appeared in guest roles on shows like ER, The West Wing, Will & Grace, and George Lopez before his breakout role.

He became widely known for portraying Ron Swanson on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009–2015), a role that earned a Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy.
